Turkish Jet Downs Syrian Warplane Near Border
March 23, a Turkish jet shot down a Syrian plane which was violating international airspace. This comes after a long conflict between the two countries over the Syrian Civil War. For the past three years, the people of Syria have been trying to overthrow their president Bashar Assad and Turkey backs the citizens of Syria in their efforts, hence the conflict at the border. The Turkish government is standing firm against the Syrian administration saying "If you violate our border, our slap will be hard." The Syrian government has been accused of using horrifying military tactics on their own citizens and many countries, such as Turkey, do not approve and are backing the rebelling citizens. Neither side wants to make anything out of this brief conflict, but the Turkish government is holding its ground.
