Conflict or compromise: 5 possible directions in Ukraine

It is unlikely that Russia will retreat from Ukraine at this point, even though they are receiving threats from other countries with a lot more power than Ukraine itself. Although no one knows what Russia's next move will be, they have to do something or they risk starting World War III. If the Russians do retreat they look weak but they allow themselves to be spared from the start of a war. If they push on and try to take over eastern Ukraine, a lot of powerful countries will be more than a little unhappy with them. At the moment, there is talk of sanctions and trade restrictions from the U.S. and other European powers in an attempt to dissuade Russia from causing the next big global conflict.
