London dig reveals new evidence about plague victims
In London, work on a new railway system lead to the discovery of the remains of numerous people who lived over 600 years ago. Many of these people are thought to have died from the black plague, and scientists are still researching these mysterious people who were found last year. After extracting teeth from 15 of the skeletons, they were able to confirm the presence of the plague bacterium and the fact that they almost definitely died due to the plague. It is believed that this was once the site of a mass grave for victims of the plague, which killed over 75 million people in feudal Europe. Scientists hope to use this information to find out if the virus that still infects several thousand people per year is the same as the ancient one or if it is a different type entirely.
